INDUSTRIAL WARMTH

I'm back!

This post is dedicated to my amazing friend, Kacey. She is working on a major renovation project with her husband, Tim. They are in the midst of a transformation for a home they just bought- you can read all about it on her blog!

Their goal is to mix rustic and modern for their new home, so I have come up with a few ideas for their love nest. The idea is to mix industrial or modern materials with earthy, natural materials for the perfect blend of edgy and warmth.

Here are a few inspiration images to set the tone.

Now on to the finishes and furnishings.

BACKGROUND:

Stained & polished concrete floors.

KITCHEN:

Mix two styles of bar stools for the kitchen bar counter. These two West Elm stools are similar in the materials, but are different in form to add personality.

Commercial style kitchen faucet.

Use crisp white Caesarstone countertops for a tailored and clean look in contrast to the rustic products.

DINING ROOM:

To add some sparkle and personality, use this light fixture over the dining table.

Include elegant and modern leather dining chairs.

Soapstone dishes to complement the natural wood table.

LIVING ROOM:

Splurge on a rug that will add softness and color and anchor the living room.

This wood coffee table from Etsy will add warmth to the concrete floors and bring unity to the dining table.

Find a sofa, like this one from Restoration Hardware, that has soft yet clean lines and adds character.
(I love the metal shelving in the background too! They are a great industrial addition to the room.)

Finally, round out the room with some accent side chairs like this one from Arteriors.

Most of all, try to have fun with this project. Don't be afraid to push the envelope and get creative with forms and textures!

What other styles, genres, or textures do you like to blend?

FOR THE LOVE OF DESIGN

Today is the first day of my blog!

As a designer, I love the creative process that evolves with each project. Inspiration can come from anywhere - and often comes in a variety of forms, places, and objects. Here is an inspiration board for a current project.

I recently visited Tallahassee Nurseries in search of a bench. I always leave so inspired (and wistful for a yard), and this trip did not disappoint. However, I became so enamored with the gorgeous blooms and greenery that I forgot to find the bench.
It looks like I'll be making a return visit for the bench and a healthy dose of inspiration.
